In case you’ve missed it, Jack Lazar is the primary character in my Jack Lazar Series of action, mystery and suspense novels. He’s a not-so-secret agent who consistently finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, and before long he is drawn into the middle of a firestorm that can’t be resolved by anyone but Jack Lazar himself. Would it be nearly as interesting otherwise?
Jack’s fatal flaw, which often draws him into trouble in the first place, is his weakness for beautiful women. Then again, Jack is quite a catch himself, so the attraction is typically mutual, and thus we have a liaison that lasts for the good part of a novel.
So, what is Jack like?
For starters, he’s a kind, considerate and sensitive man who always strives to do the right thing, and he will always come to the rescue of the people he cares about. He trains regularly with weights, usually in tandem with his attorney friend, Terrance, and he spars twice weekly with his Eastern martial arts mentor, Tasagi. His proficiency with karate and jujitsu are noteworthy, and he utilizes old world meditation techniques to stay sharp and centered in a skirmish—something that happens more often than he would probably like. But when you’re an electromagnet for danger, these things happen.
Jack loves gourmet food and fine wines, and you’ll often find him sipping on Scotch or Cognac after dinner. He relishes in his pressure-brewed coffee in the mornings and will usually pair it with the buttery, delicate flakiness of an authentic French croissant. Paris is the ideal place to make that happen, but there’s a new bakery in town that does a fine job, and it’ll do in a pinch.
Our hero was born in New York City and spent his childhood upstate, but returned to the Big Apple to attend Columbia University. After graduating, he took a job in Los Angeles with Benson Kohler, a top mergers & acquisitions firm where he knocked the cover off the ball and made enough money in ten years to carry him comfortably for the rest of his life. He built a mammoth home in San Juan Capistrano that looks more like a Guggenheim museum than a house, but he loves every inch of it and doesn’t pay much attention to the snide comments from his friends, who seem to make them while raiding his liquor cabinet. How fair is that?
His baby is a silver Aston Martin V12 Zagato—a very limited edition car that inspires his heart to beat almost as fast as a beautiful woman. But, when practicality and multiple passengers rule the day, he opts for the Range Rover. Thankfully, English cars are so much more reliable than they used to be.
In Lazar’s Intrigue, we learn that Jack has left Benson Kohler after being blackmailed into doing so by one of the firm’s senior partners, and Jack has been working on his own ever since. The company’s lead partner, Harry Benson, keeps trying to coerce Jack to return, but the situation is complicated, and it just hasn’t happened. So that has left our protagonist with far too much time on his hands, which is part of the reason he keeps getting himself into trouble.
